Relaxing Alternatives Wellness Center: Acupuncture in Gaithersburg / Rockville

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient healing art and sophisticated medical science that originated in China about 5000 years ago. It believes that a vital energy or life force known as Qi circulates around our body through some routes called meridians. There are 14 meridians and each one is connected with a specific organ. For example: lung meridian, heart meridian, etc. If the flow of the life force is disturbed, resulting in deficiency, excess or stagnation of Qi, illness and malfunction of our body occurs. By inserting the needles at certain points along the meridians, the vital Qi is regulated, balanced or restored and helps return the body to its harmony and health.

An explanation proposed by Western scientists is that acupuncture may trigger the release of natural pain-killing substances within the body called endorphins, thus blunting the perception of pain. It may also alter the body's output of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine, and of inflammation-causing substances such as prostaglandins.

There are no known side effects with acupuncture. The other nice aspect of acupuncture is that is does not interfere with any medication the patient may currently be taking. Actually, many people have found they can decrease to totally eliminate their reliance on their medications as their health condition improves. People have also found that many problems that do not respond to medication treatment respond tremendously well to acupuncture.

Price: $75 per treatment (approx. 1 hr)
